Recording overview

  1. Adams tells Adams’s mother that Adams made up the story used to persuade the target to buy a portable ultrasound device, then quotes the pitch: “You should invest in it.”

  2. Adams recounts using the target’s blood-test results to argue that he needed ultrasound imaging of his organs.

  3. Adams says the target was offered a microvascular disease (MVD) assessment using the device “as a return,” then laughs.

  4. Adams recounts invoking Medicare and medical guidelines while offering the target “a very special service,” then laughs.

  5. Adams says the target was “very convinced,” imitates his enthusiastic response, and laughs.

  6. Adams describes a $600 “low-quality” veterinary ultrasound on Amazon, saying it could be used on humans.

  7. Adams discusses the target’s $140 payment and requiring payment first, then continues laughing.

  8. Adams discusses blocking the target “until he forgets.”

A Florida doctor at AdventHealth Orlando was caught on tape—in Dr. Adams’s own words, laughing—describing a con targeting a man who sought medical guidance.

The physician is Jennifer Pan Adams and is currently employed as a Diagnostic Radiology Resident at AdventHealth Orlando.

The recording was incidentally captured on November 17, 2024, in an Orlando residence. Dr. Adams knew the conversation was being recorded with the intent to capture a “cool” bilingual conversation with Adams’s mother, a native Chinese speaker.

When an extensive background of fraudulent activity was later uncovered, the recording was reviewed and discovered to be a laughter-filled account detailing a medical fraud scheme.

Adams identified a target, looked at his real cholesterol bloodwork and told him it was just a number—deliberately dismissing legitimate medical data to make him feel uncertain and scared.

Adams then invoked diabetes and heart disease, telling the target that the only way to truly know his risk was a $600 ultrasound machine—a device marketed for veterinary use—that Adams said would visualize his “visceral fat.” Adams used the status of medical resident to make the claim credible.

Adams got the target to buy the device and promised to perform a special microvascular disease assessment as a return favor—framed as a professional medical service.

Adams also took $140 for a consultation.

Adams then blocked the target. Adams said the plan was to “wait until he forgets.”

Adams explained every step to Adams’s mother—switching between English and Chinese mid-sentence while Adams’s then-partner was just feet away and recording part of the conversation—and laughed hysterically at each beat of the con: convincing the target, the ultrasound purchase, the fake “return,” and the block.

Dr. Adams is currently a practicing physician at AdventHealth Orlando. A Florida Department of Health complaint has been filed.

…have the nurse do it, but you can’t have the nurse
just hold the tube there— you have to actually be
there.

TRANSCRIPT · 00:04

You can’t like, ‘Oh, okay, let me just wait,’ and go
on TikTok…

…you have to stand there for like 30 minutes,
which is… not fun.

TRANSCRIPT · 00:15

Maybe if I’m like really [WU/MANDARIN MIX: gen
ta pusa] [English: chatting him up / bullshitting
with him], I can have them hold it.

TRANSCRIPT · 00:22

We’ll see.

TRANSCRIPT · 00:28

No. No.

TRANSCRIPT · 00:31

[SHANGHAINESE/WU: Mingzao] [English:
tomorrow morning]…

TRANSCRIPT · 00:34

Like, it was kind of late last night, so…
[SHANGHAINESE/WU: Wo gen yi gang] [English: I
told him]…

TRANSCRIPT · 00:45

Yeah.

TRANSCRIPT · 00:47

And—and that way [SHANGHAINESE/WU:
Jinzhao] [English: today / this morning]…

TRANSCRIPT · 00:53

Yeah, so, like—no, it’s better— no, it’s better to
do—

Yeah! It’s better to do [SHANGHAINESE/WU:
Jinzhao] [English: today] early.

TRANSCRIPT · 01:06

So… at least you have an excuse to like, ‘Oh,
okay…’

…at least [indecipherable] will back you up.

TRANSCRIPT · 01:18

I don’t know, [SHANGHAINESE/WU: yi gang]
[English: he said].

I’m not like [WU/MANDARIN MIX: du bi wo]
[English: him supervising / watching me].

TRANSCRIPT · 01:32

I was gonna tell you something. I was
gonna—

TRANSCRIPT · 01:44

Hold on—oh, I’ll do it. I’ll check it right away.

TRANSCRIPT · 01:46

Um, thought I was gonna tell you something.

TRANSCRIPT · 01:50

[expletive / filler]

TRANSCRIPT · 01:51

Remember, he—[WU/MANDARIN MIX: gen na
jiang] [English: told you guys / us]?” [laughter]
“And [MANDARIN: mai ge] [English: buy a]…

TRANSCRIPT · 02:02

Oh, my—the story that I was saying is, ‘Oh, like
[MANDARIN: mai ge] [English: buy a] portable ultrasound
[MANDARIN: ji qi] [English: machine]…’

…and it’s gonna be very benefit [sic], blah blah blah. I just
made like beans out of that whole—

TRANSCRIPT · 02:13

I said, ‘You should invest in it.’” [laughter]

TRANSCRIPT · 02:16

I know—[SHANGHAINESE/WU: wo gen yi
gang] [English: I told him].

TRANSCRIPT · 02:18

I told him, ‘You should invest in it. And, um, the
reason why is—’

‘For example, [MANDARIN: ta shuo] [English: he
said]…’

TRANSCRIPT · 02:27

Now, for example, you need to take a blood test. It tells
you that you have high cholesterol. That’s just a number.

Number, right? [MANDARIN: Ji shi] [English: actually], it’s
like a picture—a snapshot of what’s going on right now.

TRANSCRIPT · 02:40

But that doesn’t tell you the [MANDARIN: ju ti de
qing kuang] [English: specific situation].

TRANSCRIPT · 02:44

The best way to see it is, you use a portable ultrasound.
You can [MANDARIN: sao miao] [English: scan]…

…around your organs, your lungs… [MANDARIN: zhi
fang] [English: fat]… [MANDARIN: du zi] [English: belly /
stomach].

TRANSCRIPT · 03:01

That’s more directly related to your [MANDARIN: ji lu]
[English: probability / odds]…

…of getting diabetes and [MANDARIN: xin zang mao
bing] [English: heart disease / trouble].

TRANSCRIPT · 03:12

So I said, ‘IF I get it and [MANDARIN: wo yong le]
[English: I use it]— I practice…’

‘[WU/MANDARIN MIX: Wo bang ni zuo ze] [English: I’ll
help you do this]—an MVD assessment as a “return.”’

[hysterical laughter]

TRANSCRIPT · 03:35

And I told him—I said, ‘SEE— when you go to your family doctor,
they won’t do it for you [WU/MANDARIN MIX: bai chi]…’

‘[English: for free / without getting paid]. But Medicare still hasn’t
approved it…’

‘That’s why—[MANDARIN: gui ding] [English: regulation /
rule]—Family Medicine has a guideline…’

‘If it’s according to the guideline, then Medicare will cover it as
part of insurance…’

‘…but, you know, I’m offering you a very special service.’

TRANSCRIPT · 04:10

[hysterical laughter]

TRANSCRIPT · 04:15

I think he— I think he was very convinced.”
[hysterical laughter]

TRANSCRIPT · 04:20

He’s like, ‘Oh, that’s such a good idea!’”
[hysterical laughter]

TRANSCRIPT · 04:26

But then—okay, so—so then…” [short pause
/ filler]

TRANSCRIPT · 04:30

I say, ‘Okay—[MANDARIN: xing de] [English: all
right / sure].’

[laughing] “I took a picture.” [mixed-language
phrase unclear]

TRANSCRIPT · 04:36

It was like a website where you can buy the
supplies for the anima—animal…

TRANSCRIPT · 04:41

You know, there’s like this ultrasound on Amazon you can
buy to look at…

…you know, for veterinarians, [MANDARIN: dong wu]
[English: animal]—animal— for the animals…

TRANSCRIPT · 04:52

…but you can use it on humans, too.

TRANSCRIPT · 04:55

There’s another really nice one that they use in the
E.R.…

…and it’s, like, handheld, so you just—it’s
Bluetooth’d…

TRANSCRIPT · 05:02

…to your phone, so you can look at it from
your phone… it’s wireless.

TRANSCRIPT · 05:08

That one is like— that was almost $4,000.

They don’t give you a discount for residents.

TRANSCRIPT · 05:15

So that one [MANDARIN: tai gui le] [English: is too
expensive].

But the $600 one is, like, a (?) low-quality (?) one from
Amazon— the veterinarian… a good practice thing.

TRANSCRIPT · 05:25

So, you know, [MANDARIN: ni jue de ne]
[English: what do you think]?

TRANSCRIPT · 05:27

Yeah, yeah! That sounds like a good idea! I
like that!” [hysterical laughter]

TRANSCRIPT · 05:32

And so—” [laughter] “And so…”
[mixed-language phrase]

TRANSCRIPT · 05:34

And, and then later, because I—I— [MANDARIN: shuo hao]
[English: agreed / said okay]. Oh, what about the $140 text
message?

Sure, I was like, ‘Oh, how about you— [MANDARIN: ni yao zhi fu]
[English: you need to pay…]’

[laughing; speech becomes indistinct]

TRANSCRIPT · 05:50

So [WU/MANDARIN MIX: wo gen na jiang]
[English: I told him / you], any time [MANDARIN:
ta wen wo] [English: he asks me]…

TRANSCRIPT · 05:58

And then have you—oh, how about the
[MANDARIN: yi bai si shi kuai] [English: 140
dollars]… [MANDARIN: ni yao xian fu] [English: you
need to pay first]…

TRANSCRIPT · 06:03

So for now [MANDARIN: wo ba ta] [English: I did
to him] block, [MANDARIN: suo yi] [English: so]…”
[laughter]

TRANSCRIPT · 06:09

…you have text message [MANDARIN: ting
bu jin lai] [English: cannot get through].

TRANSCRIPT · 06:15

Until—until then it sends [MANDARIN: ta
wang ji] [English: until he forgets]…

TRANSCRIPT · 06:23

Remember last time [MANDARIN: wo ti zao]
[English: I mentioned early / brought up before]…”
[hard laughter]

TRANSCRIPT · 06:30

[laughing] “Oh, my God.

TRANSCRIPT · 06:35

Yeah, I know.

TRANSCRIPT · 06:37

Oh! I was gonna say something.

TRANSCRIPT · 06:41

Yeah, it was—he’s saying [indecipherable], you
know, the total—

His total of the insurance was, like, um, $280—the
Progressive. Yeah.

TRANSCRIPT · 06:53

Yeah, which I’m still like, ‘If I’m going to,
you…’
